mom of my children

“There are many virtuous and capable women in the world, but you surpass them all!” Prov. 31:28

Today I am grateful more than ever for Joy. I would have told you while we were dating that she would be a great mom; I would also have had no idea what I was talking about. My college aged brain simply couldn’t comprehend such things. But the mom Joy is now is something I see played out every moment of these days and I am amazed.

Each one of us has our limitations. Joy would be first to admit her indecisiveness and tendency to worry. You’re thinking: this is how you pay tribute to your wife on Mother’s Day by pointing out her weaknesses? To which I say: I’m not finished.

I have seen Joy grow in many ways and these areas are no exception. She is one of the most tenacious people I know. She refuses to let her weaknesses keep her from doing something for her kids or from following Christ. You don’t see that behind the scenes Joy doesn’t stop fighting through until she overcomes her hesitations and achieves her purpose. And the kids and I reap the benefits everyday. From teaching art to elementary students or juggling three kids, no matter how daunting the task, she takes it head on, despite the personal cost.

“Her children stand and bless her. Her husband praises her… Charm is deceptive, and beauty does not last; but a woman who fears the Lord will be greatly praised. Reward her for all she has done. Let her deeds publicly declare her praise.” (Proverbs 31:28, 30, 31 NLT)
